What educators are saying

This deck is really well put together! It's a simple, yet engaging activity for targeting perspective taking.

Description

Do you target social skills in your speech therapy sessions? Some of my students have difficulty interpreting my emotions, even with an expressive face like mine. And it makes it hard for them to respond because they have no idea what's happening. I end up explaining every detail of the situation until my emotions are no longer there and the responses are no longer relevant. Have you experienced this before? Then maybe this resource is going to be helpful for your students.

WHO IS IT FOR?

This resource is for school-age speech therapy students. In my speech therapy sessions, I use real pictures of different social scenarios to help my students understand what's going on the subject's mind. We talk about the emotions of the people in the picture and then analyze what the students feel if they were in that situation. More importantly, we talk about the responses that can elicit a positive and a negative reaction from the person in the situation. This way the students understand how responses are perceived by others.

WHAT'S IN THE DECK?

I collected common and less common social scenarios and placed them in this one resource. It contains 30 real pictures and is divided into 2 sections:

  1. One subject (16 pictures) - Social scenarios have one subject and the student is asked to interact with the subject as him/herself
  2. Multiple subjects (14 pictures) - Social scenarios have 2-3 subjects and the students has a choice to take a role and respond in character, or respond as himself/herself.

Story Context cue cards are available at the bottom of the social scenarios to help the students in understanding the scenarios.
