    1. Employee Benefits Write the Room: Get your students up and moving with this fun write the room activity! This product is perfect for teaching about employee benefits. This file includes 20 application-based prompts for students to match with key terminology. Students will move around the room to read each prompt and use the word bank on their worksheet to record their responses. An alternate worksheet is provided without the terms if you prefer not to give students the word bank. Seven reflection questions are also included in the activity. An answer key is included to review correct responses.

Employee benefits covered in this activity: health insurance, 401(k), 403(b), defined benefit plan, stock options, educational reimbursements, commission, PTO, paid holidays, FMLA, Social Security and Medicare, scheduling changes, Flexible Spending Account, dental insurance, and Cafeteria-Style Employee Benefits.

Other clues require students to calculate the amount contributed to a 401(k) with a match, amount contributed to Social Security and Medicare by an employer when provided with a total contributed by the employee, and total value of a compensation package including base salary and employee benefits.

    Included in this product:

    • Employee Benefits Write the Room Answer Key (in this PDF)
    • Employee Benefits Write the Room Recording Worksheet (with and without word bank, in this PDF)
    • Employee Benefits Write the Room Prompt Cards (in this PDF)

    2. Money Management Case Studies (Budgeting, Saving, and Banking): Increase higher-order thinking in your Personal Finance course by having students apply, analyze, and evaluate information. This EDITABLE Microsoft PowerPoint Presentation contains 12 scenarios that make great classroom discussion. Topics covered include: saving up for a purchase, budgeting, overdraft protection, simple interest, types of bank accounts, depository institution features, and saving strategies.

In my classroom I have individual marker boards so I like to have each student answer the question on their own board while I walk around to gauge student understanding. We then discuss each question together with possible responses. You could also do this activity purely as a discussion or have students record the answers on notebook paper for you to collect. Suggested answers are provided on the slide or in the notes section of the PowerPoint.

    3. Money Management Chat Stations: Get your students moving with these engaging chat stations! Topics covered include: 50/30/20 rule, budgeting, maximizing saving returns, saving strategies, net worth, depository institution account types, etc. This activity is perfect for a Personal Finance course. Chat stations are a great addition to your course because they improve whole class discussion since all students have had a chance to discuss potential responses in a less threatening environment before sharing with the class. Chat stations add variety to your curriculum and get students out of their seat!

    Included in this file:

Chat Station Prompts List (8 prompts included) PDF

Teacher Guide with Instructions and Discussion Guide PDF

    Instructions for this activity:

    1) Print chat station cards on colored paper, cut paper in half, and laminate if desired.

    2) Place one card at each area you would like students to meet.

    3) Place students in groups at each station.

    4) Use a timer to give students a set period of time to discuss each prompt (~2 minutes).

    5) Use a timer to give students a set period of time to move to the next chat station. Time depends on size of area being used (~20 seconds).

    6) After students have had time to rotate through each discussion station review answers.

Optional: If you have trouble keeping students on task, have them record their answers on a sheet of notebook paper at each station. If students need guidelines for holding a discussion, provide students will accountable talk stems. You can find these on the Internet or TpT for free.

    4. Investing Gallery Walk: Get your students moving with an interactive way to have a discussion about investing! If you're not familiar with the idea, a gallery walk is essentially where students move around the room to complete a task. This product contains 10 discussion questions on investing for a high school course. For a long-lasting product, print these questions on colored paper and laminate. Cut and tape the questions around the room and have students work with a small group or partner to walk around the room and write answers to discussion questions with a dry erase marker (if placed on dry erase board) or have students use post-its to record answers if you're short on board space. At the conclusion of the activity, the teacher should hold a discussion on student responses to discussion questions. I like to do this by having a group stand at each question, pick out 2 or 3 good responses to share, and presenting them to the class. A teacher discussion guide is provided.

    Topics covered in this activity:

    Diversification

    Stocks, bonds, and mutual funds
