Description
Need a way to engage your middle school science students in an introduction to the periodic table? This engaging lesson set is web-based and includes chemistry resources to help students learn about the periodic table, chemical elements, non-fiction texts, and more. Students learn about the history of the periodic table through cross-curricular connections to social studies with DBQs, and language arts through the reading and writing of non-fiction texts. This resource supports NGSS Middle School science standards for Matter and Its Interactions.

This WebQuest includes:
- a five-day task document for students with links to websites and artifacts and instructions. Can be posted on your Learning Management System for easy student access.
- a teacher instruction document with links and detailed instructions
- artifacts in the form of original newspaper "articles", crime lab reports, audio clips, and more
- a PearDeck™ to assess student learning
- instructional teacher screencasts to support you in using the resource
- Please note that due to TPT sharing settings, you will need to make sure all of the links have the correct sharing settings for student use within your district!
- The screencasts included in this bundle are mp4 files. Based on your district's policies for showing videos from outside sources, you may need to download the mp4s to your drive then re-add them to the resources as a new link to allow students to see the instructional videos. I showcase how to do this with notes linked to the resource for teachers.
How to Use this Resource:
- In this fictional storyline, an element goes missing from the periodic table. Using a WebQuest is a great way to pace your distance learning time, and to support your students in learning chemistry concepts.
- While not a hyperlinked doc, this product shares a lot of characteristics of a hyperlinked doc. I've included suggestions on the teacher instruction document for how to integrate the learning on to a Learning Management System.
- If you're looking for a way to feel supported in introducing middle school science students to the periodic table, this would be a great WebQuest to kick-off your unit!
