What educators are saying

This was used in part of our drumming unit. Thank you for the great visuals! It helped the students succeed in their compositions and performances!
I used level 1 with my kinders to reinforce some of the rhythms we've learned this year. They had a lot of fun reading the rhythms as is, as well as making some of our own! Thank you for a wonderful resource!

Description

Whether introducing or reinforcing rhythmic literacy, you and your students will have a jammin' good time practicing and composing rhythms with these mnemonic graphics and engaging activities. 36 pages include a hyperlinked index, 'tried and true' teaching guide, 33 pages of colorful, printable or projectable rhythm cards and jam sessions, and two pages of black-line masters, smaller one-beat activity cards for more economical printing if desired.

Adaptable to three skill levels:
Level 1: quarter notes, quarter rests, and eighth-note pairs
Level 2: above rhythms plus sixteenth notes (tika-tika)
Level 3: above rhythms plus sixteenth- and eighth-note
combinations (ti-tika and tika-ti)

I've included two ready-made three-part jam sessions for each level (six total), suggested music for play-alongs and instructions for composing activities. The possibilities are endless for creating ostinatos, drum circles and 'jam' sessions!

This is one of my favorite ways to involve students in reading, chanting, playing and creating rhythm patterns. Using the Orff technique of speech-to-rhythm, these icons and their rhythmic text will cement student comprehension and recall of the notation as well as build playing and composing skills. Great for drum circles and rhythm band activities!

Teachers and students also enjoy my LEVEL A TRAFFIC JAM SESSIONS, which include 12 sessions that teach ta, ti-ti, and rest; and/or LEVEL B TRAFFIC JAM SESSIONS, which include 15 sessions that teach ta, ti-ti, quarter rest, tiki-tiki (tiri-tiri), ti-tiki (ti-tiri), tiki-ti (tiri-ti), and single eighth note with eighth rest.

Please remember to leave feedback. : ) Thank you for your interest and support. You might enjoy a visit to my blog: http://mymusicalmagic.blogspot.com/
