Description
Engage students with this game that reviews nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, and prepositions while reading about inspiring women from around the world. In each round, students identify a part of speech in the context of a sentence; the sentences increase in difficulty and complexity throughout the game.
Whether your students play during Women's History Month or any other time of the year, students learn about amazing women: Rosa Parks, Amelia Earhart, Marie Curie, Margaret Thatcher, Aung San Suu Kyi, Madame C.J. Walker, Eleanor Roosevelt, Elizabeth Blackwell, Indira Gandhi, Golda Meir, Joan of Arc, and others. This activity for Women's History Month can be used as formative assessment or test prep before a final quiz.
All that you need to play is the ability to project a PowerPoint or Google Slides presentation, a ball, some dark tape, and a trash can.
The PowerPoint and Google Slides presentations include the following:
- review slides
- game slides
- rules for students
- teacher instructions
- key
Research shows that students often learn best when they can move, and this activity motivates students further by tapping into their love of sports. Using heterogeneous groups to play a game with friendly competition is an excellent way to meet the needs of all of your students and reward them for their success.
