What educators are saying

Great to use for review of previous grade level content and to shorten a unit but still cover the standards.

Description

COMPLETE UNIT to cover particle motion, states of matter, and phase changes! Includes informational texts, interactive worksheets, a hands-on activity, exit tickets, and a brief summative assessment. Students will learn about how matter behaves in a solid, liquid, and gas phase and the relationship between phases, temperature, and heat energy. They'll also learn how a thermometer works!

Please click VIEW PREVIEW (above) to see each included lesson in more detail!

This resource is broken down into 4 MINI-LESSONS and a brief ASSESSMENT:

  1. States of Matter: Includes a text, worksheet, a cut-and-paste review activity, and an exit ticket.
  2. Heat and Particle Motion: Includes a text, 2 worksheets, and an exit ticket.
  3. Particle Motion in a Thermometer: Includes a text, a simple hands-on activity (you'll need thermometers), a worksheet, and an exit ticket.
  4. Phase Change Diagram: Includes a text, a cut-and-paste activity, and an exit ticket.
  5. Assessment: A simple multiple-choice quiz can be used as a summative assessment.

NGSSMS-PS1-4
Develop a model that predicts and describes changes in particle motion, temperature, and state of a pure substance when thermal energy is added or removed. Emphasis is on qualitative molecular-level models of solids, liquids, and gases to show that adding or removing thermal energy increases or decreases kinetic energy of the particles until a change of state occurs. Examples of models could include drawings and diagrams. Examples of particles could include molecules or inert atoms. Examples of pure substances could include water, carbon dioxide, and helium.
