Reach out to parents with these hand-outs that review quick and easy strategies for parents and families to use at home with their child. These booklets are welcome information for parents at Open House, Family Nights, and Parent/Teacher conferences. You will find these handouts to be an excellent tool to strengthen positive relationships with parents.

This Parent Handout Bundle provides 2 different handouts for parent with a variety of tips and activities. “Help Your Child to be a Better Reader” is filled with literacy tips that are easy for parents to understand and use every day.

Topics covered in the literacy handout are:

*Benefits of setting up nightly reading routine with your child

*How to use the “5-Finger Rule” to determine if a text is appropriate for your child to read independently

*Quick and easy methods to use to strengthen your child’s “Word Attack” skills

*Check on your Child’s Mastery of Words on the Dolch Word List

*Graphic organizers to help children organize the story’s events and details.

The handout “Have Fun with Math” at Home provides math games for home and ways to demonstrate the place math has in real life activities. .

Some of the activities provided in this hand out include:

 “Card Attack” and “Concentration”, two card games to make practicing math facts fun.

 “Grocery Store Math Games”

 *MATCHING- a math game involving adding decimals

 *ESTIMATE- this game provides practice for measurement, computation, and conversion of units

 *TALK ABOUT IT-recognizing geometric shapes

 *GUESS-estimating totals

 3.) “Math on the Go”- a variety of games using the numbers on license plates to practice computation, place value, and display data
