Palomitas Elementary K-2 Spanish Curriculum, Year 1, Unit 1

Effective, engaging Spanish Curriculum for beginners in early elementary!

After a decade of working as an elementary Spanish teacher and struggling to find the perfect curriculum for my students, I decided to create my own! I poured my knowledge of foreign language teaching best practices, effective resources, and student engagement strategies into this 9-week, 18-day unit plan. Students will learn Spanish essentials and gain skills and confidence in all four areas of speaking, listening, reading, and writing.

The focus of this unit is on the following themes and target phrases (more info in thumbnails):

• greetings and polite phrases
• common verbs
• introductions
• basic colors
• numbers
• basic adjectives of size
• Day of the Dead/ Mexico cultural study
• me gusta, no me gusta
• cognates

This unit includes:

• Detailed Teacher's Guide to walk you through how to implement lessons and use the materials included
• Suggestions for outside resources (song, videos, shows, and websites)
• All necessary assessments, including modified versions for different grades/ ability levels
• 50 pages of classwork and print outs, including extra work for subs or early finishers and coloring pages just for fun!
• 110 pages of unique and compelling visual aids to assist in teaching and retention. Many can be printed and hung in the classroom!
