PLACE VALUE - WAR - Card Game - Hundreds

This is a revised package of the WAR game for the numbers 100 to 999. It includes 81 number cards, 18 war cards and directions.

This game is based on the old card game of WAR with a twist. It helps students learn number values. You could use the whole pack of cards for larger groups, or take cards out to use with 2 or 3 players. Add the WAR cards for a fun element. Players compare numbers and consolidate place value as they have fun playing. I use half the pack (e.g., 100 to 500) when I introduce it to my intervention groups.

I start by using the cards and sequencing, putting the cards in order, and once my students get the hang of comparing the place values, I introduce the game.

You could use this game in intervention, like I do, or put it in a Maths Centre. Ideally, some of your intervention group would already know how to play the game and would be able to show the others. Mixing ability groups like this will boost the confidence of your intervention group and consolidate place value for every student.

I have made this game a free game because I find it so valuable in my lessons. I would like to see more kids playing it and moving on to the THOUSANDS WAR games as it is the thousands that I find present the biggest challenge.
