Description

This PBS video is about the archaeological evidence for where Vikings explored and settled. It covers how the Vikings lived, how their boats were made, the creation of the Viking Sagas, and how they manufactured and crafted iron tools. The show concentrates on a very recent discovery by Sarah Parcak in Newfoundland that may be evidence for a Viking settlement further west in North America than the Newfoundland settlement found in the 1960s. The show follows Sarah through the process of finding the site through satellite imagery and then surveying the site to find evidence. It is a great video for showing how state of the art archaeology research is conducted today.

The worksheet asks questions in the order they appear in the video so that students can fill out the worksheets while they watch in order to ensure they pay attention. The video is viewable for free on PBS's NOVA website located here: link
