Description
I love teaching the ovarian and menstrual cycles to my 12th grade Anatomy and Physiology students during our reproductive system unit, but I've noticed that they get so bogged down with the hormone names, hormone actions, and new anatomy that we often don't get to have deeper-level conversations during those notes... my students are usually just hanging on for dear life. We can't talk about superfetation, pregnancy, fertility, sperm survival, or any of those other deeper topics!
So, I created this resource to provide my students with a solid foundation on these complicated cycles! The reading explains (in sequential) order, what happens in each phase to prepare the ovaries and uterus for fertilization and pregnancy.
Here's how I use this activity in sync with my other ovarian and uterine cycle resources in my A&P reproductive system unit:
- Day 1: 20 minutes to work on the ovarian cycle pages of this activity packet. Pause students and put away the packet. Together as a class, take notes on the ovarian cycle using the Ovarian Cycle Doodle Notes.
- Day 2: Complete the Ovarian Cycle Sorting Cards and Review Worksheet. With the remaining time in class, students progress on the Ovarian & Uterine Cycle Activity Packet. I assign any remaining pages of the packet (usually there isn't much) for homework this night.
- Day 3: Together as a class, take notes on the uterine cycle using the Uterine Cycle Doodle Notes. In order to review the uterine cycle, complete the Uterine Cycle Sorting Cards and Review Worksheet.
This resource is available in print and digital forms. The resource is an non-editable PDF. I have also included 1-page of teacher instructions.
