What educators are saying

My students loved this scavenger hunt. I modified it somewhat to be able to use it in the classroom during a station rotation.
This was a great end-of-the-year activity for my class! They loved going outside and doing math with chalk on the sidewalk. The directions and questions were clear and closely aligned with many skills that we learned this school year.

Description

Looking for an innovative way to spice up your math routine? Need a cool new test prep idea? Want to get your kids geared up for PARCC? Look no further!

Get your kids up, moving, and enjoying the beautiful weather with this OUTDOOR math scavenger hunt! With almost NO SET UP or CLEAN UP, this activity will have your kiddos begging for more! The only materials needed are the scavenger hunt task list & some chalk! All work is designed to be done right on the blacktop/sidewalk!

Appropriate and challenging for grades 3-5, this is a perfect way to reinforce critical math skills in the upper elementary classroom. Covering a multitude of 3rd, 4th and 5th grade CCCS standards, here is a sneak peak of some of the innovative tasks your students will be completing:

* Create a multiplication/division fact family for: 6, 4, and 24. Choose 3 more numbers and make up another one on your own!

* Write the number that is 5 times as big as 73 in your fanciest font handwriting.

* Count the number of trees you can find standing in only 1 spot. Then list the first 5 multiples of that number with your partner.

* Is 9/12 in simplest form? If it is, run around in a circle 3 times. If not, trace your partner while he/she is laying down.

* Hunt around to find examples of each of these: PARALLEL LINES, PERPENDICULAR LINES, INTERSECTING LINES, RIGHT ANGLE, ACUTE ANGLE, OBTUSE ANGLE.
