What educators are saying

These are a great way for your students to reference spelling rules to help them with their writing!!
This is a great reference for scholars. I keep in on the board when we are learning the rule then it goes to our rule resource wall where everyone can see it. The colors are great and the images are kid friendly and useful! Thank you!

Description

Teach your students to spell words accurately and independently using spelling rules posters. No more guessing words or interrupting your writing conferences to ask for help with spelling a word!

Does this sound familiar?

When you ask your students to write, instead of the beautiful sound of pencils scratching paper, you hear… CRICKETS… and then the hands go up all with the same question... “How do I spell ____?”

Or maybe…

Your students are silently struggling to spell words independently and have become reliant on inefficient supports like using a word wall or guessing.

Your students need to learn more efficient, evidence-based strategies to spell by applying their knowledge of letter-sound correspondences to translate speech to print independently and accurately. Your students need to learn some simple spelling rules and generalizations.

You need a multisensory approach to spelling!

▶️ What is Multisensory Spelling?

With a Multisensory Approach to Spelling, students are taught a specific process to use all their senses to transfer speech sounds to printed letters. There are two multisensory approaches included in this set.

Simultaneous Oral Spelling - S.O.S.

First, students say or echo the word aloud. Second, students segment the individual sounds in the word by tapping the sounds using their fingers. This engages the tactile and auditory processing centers at the same time! Third, students finger-spell the word by tapping the sounds and connecting the sounds with the printed letters that represent them. Fourth, students spell the word on paper. Fifth, students blend the sounds to read the written word to check their spelling.

Tap it, Map it, Graph it!

This multisensory approach is just 3 simple steps and may be easier for beginning spellers. For this approach, students will need phoneme boxes (Elkonin boxes) and small manipulatives such as color tiles, pom pom balls, or erasers. First, students segment the individual sounds in the word by tapping the sounds using their fingers. Second, students will map the sounds in the word by pushing a manipulative into one of the sound boxes for each sound in the word. Third, students will spell each sound they hear.
