Imagine a real menu and waiter in your classroom. The waiter asks questions at your command, and your student answers each one, for both herself and a friend. You grade the student's performance on an easy-to-use rubric.

Most Spanish teachers practice talking about food and ordering it several times during levels one, two, and three. This file transports the Mexican restaurant (it's actually IN Mexico City) straight to your LCD overhead screen! The students are "flown" into DF and taken to a posh restaurant in a limousine!

The focus of this file, and most of my work, is on promoting student speaking in class in an authentic environment. I've researched several restaurants in major Mexican cities and recreated their best choices in food, beverage, and dessert, all using pesos. My Mexican friend, Juan, who is a real waiter in my neighborhood, provides the voices for a variety of requests from "¿Qué les gustaría para tomar?" all the way to "¿Listos para la cuenta?" and I have rendered and animated musicians, staff, and companions with whom your students can interact via your mouse clicks. The sound effects add ambiance and authenticity, and the whole file feels like an app for a tablet or iPad. Your students will be drawn into the experience and hopefully want to volunteer to go next.

In the "teacher" section of the file I've provided cultural notes, directions, sample interactions, and a highly researched rubric for assessing student performance.
