What educators are saying

My students loved this resource, I always use it with any grade. If is 8th grade, I use it before teaching Expressions and Equations. For 6th grade as a review for a test. Kids were very engaged
I know my students will love this activity. I want them to review a unit in small groups and this is perfect. I am unable to print the product. It is asking me for a password. Any advice?

Description

Practicing Order of Operations is a continued concept throughout many grade levels. Students must understand the order in which the operations are to occur (PEMDAS, GEMDAS, GEMS, etc) so they will work through the problem in the correct manner and therefore get the accurate solution.

Within this activity, all parts of Order of Operations are included for positive integers only. Students will not have any negative numbers to truly focus on the concept. There are some cards that will look similar but have different groupings given so students see the importance of working in the correct manner.

This Download Includes:

  • Task Card Title Card, Student Directions, Objective Card, and Mini Answer Key (sized for Task Card Boxes)
  • Order of Operations Equations and Solutions Cards (16 Equations and 16 Solutions- available in Color and B/W)
  • Answer Key

This activity is perfect for a small group activity, but can also be printed for a whole class activity to be performed with partners and/or groups. Students must agree upon their answers within the group to collect their matches and move on to the next problem.

Standards

to see state-specific standards (only available in the US).
Evaluate expressions at specific values of their variables. Include expressions that arise from formulas used in real-world problems. Perform arithmetic operations, including those involving whole-number exponents, in the conventional order when there are no parentheses to specify a particular order (Order of Operations). For example, use the formulas V = s³ and A = 6 s² to find the volume and surface area of a cube with sides of length s = 1/2.
