What educators are saying

I use this as a challenge activity for a handful of students who are way ahead of the class. It challenged them and it was great that they could check their own answers using the QR code.

Description

Included in this set are 30 order of operations task cards, a student answer sheet, and an answer key. There are 2 versions of the task cards. One version has QR codes to allow students to quickly check their answers using a QR code scanner, the other version does not have QR codes. Pictures of each version are shown in the thumbnails!

Task cards are a fantastic way for students to practice order of operations. There are two types of task cards included (15 of each type). Cards 1-15 are short answer cards. Students are given an expression and asked to evaluate it. Task cards 1B-15B are multiple choice questions. Each card has an expression and asks students according to the order of operations, what is the 1st, 2nd or 3rd step to simplifying the expression. I have found that the easiest way to use the cards are to cut out the set and laminate them. That way they last for years!

There are 2 ways I use task cards in my classroom. I either have students pair up, or I have students work alone. When students work in pairs, I give one student in the group a short answer card, and the other student a multiple choice card. Students then work together to solve each of the problems. After a certain amount of time (2-3minutes) each group passes their cards to the next group. When I have students work on task cards by themselves, I pass out the task cards, then set a timer so that every 2 minutes students pass their cards.

****Note: This set of task cards is included in a bundle along with a maze, and a Football Mania PowerPoint game. The bundle can be viewed here: Order of Operations Activity Bundle

And is included in a bundle of task cards found here: Task Card Bundle
