Orange Belt 4 of 4 "Rolling Rice Balls!" is a unit which revolves around Japanese folk tales, specifically 1)おむすびころりん　2)さるかにがっせん & if time 3)かさじぞう

{Note: All three stories have rice balls, hence the name of the resource :) }

Through the unit "Rolling Rice Balls!", students;

• listen to/read authentic Japanese stories - in the TL
• gain confidence in using a hiragana chart to decipher hiragana characters and to write the characters
• Students also extend to kanji and learning stroke order
• Compare and contrast Japanese and Western folk tales / reinforce the English Australian Curriculum
• learn necessary cultural phrases for eating
• have the opportunity to make 'omusubi' or watch Sensei make the rice balls
• revisit festivals that occur in Japan in Term Four

DDJ suggests purchasing or renting the books/downloading the various apps available for ipads - can also connect to IWB to show/purchasing or making the Apron Theatre. NOTE THESE ARE NOT REQUIRED TO IMPLEMENT THE UNIT, just to enhance. DDJ has provided QR code links for the visual/audio YouTube clips in the resource.

*Can be implemented over a Term or a Semester - designed for Year 2 level of Japanese.
