Oral Communication skills are used every day in our classrooms - but do students know what exactly is expected of them? Do you know what skills you're assessing and reporting on? Do students have a chance to assess themselves and get feedback on their speaking and listening skills? Often, this doesn't happen in our classrooms.

Use these two easy-to-use checklist-style rubrics for your students to self-assess (assessment as learning) their speaking and listening skills. It's perfect for the primary grades! This download is part of my Language Self-Assessment Superpack.

Students can then set their PERSONAL GOALS to be whatever points they did not give themselves full smiley faces!

I use them once or twice a month - and moreso as needed when behavior becomes challenging. Students like to be honest and like to know and feel they're improving!

These can be kept in a student portfolio, in an oral communication duotang or folder, or sent home in a communication journal.
