Description
This bundle contains three of my popular PhET Interactive Simulation online optics physics labs. The online labs that are included cover reflection and refraction of light, index of refraction, Snell’s law and drawing diagrams for lenses and mirrors.
The labs included in this bundle are:
(1) PhET Simulation: Refraction of Light
(2) PhET Simulation: Snell’s Law
(3) PhET Simulation: Geometric Optics, Lenses and Mirrors
In the Refraction of Light lab your students will investigate how light is bent at the boundary between two materials and what determines the amount of bending. They will also investigate the index of refraction and its relationship to the speed of light through a material.
In the Snell’s Law lab your students will use the Bending Light simulation to derive the Snell’s law equation. They will then use Snell’s law to calculate the angle of refraction and index of refraction for the mystery materials.
In the Geometric Optics lab your students will investigate the characteristics of the image formed by four different optical instruments: a convex lens, a concave lens, a convex mirror and a concave mirror.
These web-based physics lab activities are available as editable PDF files that can be completed by distance learners. PhET simulations incorporate research based, student centered activities that are fun and easy to use. All of the PhET simulations are available from their website: phet.colorado.edu.
Each of the three online labs contains the following:
(1) A Getting Started Teachers Guide.
(2) Two or three pages of notes covering the relevant material.
(3) The lab activity worksheets.
(4) An answer key for the lab activity worksheets.
