Description

Teach your students to draw stunning realistic Christmas bows using oil pastels in this step-by-step tutorial presentation. This works great for high school grades 9-12. Great for public, private and homeschool and adult education students as well. The perfect art project during winter season!

This product comes with:

  • PDF/PPT versions of project tutorial steps/instructions
  • PDF handout of image steps for students
  • Bow grid drawing practice handout
  • PDF of color bow reference images
  • Oil pastels techniques worksheet
  • Timelapse video

Supplies needed for this project:

  • Black drawing paper (you can also use construction paper)
  • Oil pastels (we use Crayola brand)
  • White color pencil for sketching
  • paper towels

How to use this resource:

Use the oil pastels techniques worksheet to introduce students familiar with the medium. Then we spend a day practicing how to draw the outline of the bows- you can do this using the grid reference worksheet or bring in real bows for students to use as reference. You may use the colored reference photos if you do not want to bring in your own bows!

Finally, follow the steps on the PowerPoint and the timelapse video to teach students how to add color, highlights and shadows with their bows! For my class, we draw one bow together as a class and then I give them their project paper and have them recreate 3 on their own.
