OT Middle School Executive Functioning Activities Plan a Trip Worksheets

Executive functioning skills are necessary for academic success. This 20 page packet works on planning, organization, math skills, reading comprehension, and more. Students will plan a camping tour of 3 National Parks, including shopping for camping supplies, reading airline charts, renting a car, reading maps, and answering questions. Can be used for project based learning with included worksheets, or extend the learning by having students research actual prices from stores and rental car locations near them.

This packet is ideal for occupational therapy or speech language therapy sessions, math centers, homework, and more. Can be used virtually by typing answers instead of writing, using the digital overlay tool. If used virtually, students will need to be able to easily move between pages for information, or may want to print the worksheets out for reference. This is perfect for therapists who need age appropriate resources for middle school or high school students working on executive functioning skills.

Therapy Sessions tip: print one full copy of the resource and place in sheet protectors. Have students reference the pages as needed, and write or type answers on separate page (may need to coach on best way to label answers). Save ink by only printing once. Same strategy can be used for centers, with students sharing the resources. Or, show the pages on smartboards and have students write answers during class sessions.

Students will practice math skills, budgeting, reading comprehension, and more. They will need to assimilate information from different worksheets, working on attention to details along the way.

They will need to utilize information given to make the best choices (such as using weather reports to determine best sleeping bags, purchasing correct size tent, and staying within budget while purchasing air mattresses).

They will have opportunities to make choices of rental cars, with different mpgs and sizes. They will use that information to answer questions regarding how much gas they will use during the trip.

They will fill out a Budget worksheet with final tally, gathering information from the other worksheets.
