This visual aid is designed as an accommodation for students with a visual learning preference. While you teach from your teacher's guide, this will help kids with needs in visual learning access the material. These slides have worked well for inclusive classrooms for children who are deaf / hearing impaired, need visual as well as auditory stimuli, and any classroom where the delivery needs to be auditory as well as visual (which is just about any classroom).
NOTE: This visual aid is not beneficial for anyone who does not have the printed teacher guides. Please do not purchase this product if you do not have the materials from the publisher.
17 sessions (see below for the listing) - over 700 slides. Purchasing this product gives you access to this unit in Google Slides, PowerPoint, SMART Notebook, and PDF (PDF version is not editable). When you purchase this product, you will get a one page PDF that will contain the links of all 4 formats - you choose which format works best for you.
The preview and thumbnails are just a FEW slides from one session of this unit, but all the files follow the same format with Connection, Teaching, Active Engagement, Link, MidWorkshop Teaching Point, and Share. Many will find this similar to the Writing Workshop that Lucy Calkins uses in her units. However, this unit is more structured to the 5-paragraph essay writing (introduction, body paragraphs, counter-claim, conclusion, etc.).
This is an ideal unit for teachers that will be on extended leave and want to have something for the substitute to teach that will require minimal prep time. If your kids are familiar with the “workshop” format, they’ll fit right in.
The unit follows the Lucy Calkins and Teachers Reading and Writing College “workshop” format. If you have that curriculum in your school and want to have something to supplement it that provides a structured approach to how to write a paragraph, how to write an essay, and the basics of persuasive and opinion writing,, this is the. produt for you.
This unit is a foundation to paragraph writing and essay writing using the persuasive and opinion writing genre as the vehicle to deliver that content. It is very structured. Therefore, it gives the students the ability to learn the fundamentals while having autonomy as to the topic of their persuasive writing. It could be used for any grade from 3rd through 6th grade - either as a whole class unit or as a remedial unit for some kids. It would also be great for a homeschooling situation.
NOTE: This unit includes many charts that I designed to help my students write their essay. After formative testing, I discovered that my kids didn’t know the basic format of a paragraph nor a 5-paragraph essay. I used this unit to help my kids learn both of these fundamental skills. The charts are designed to paste on a page of a composition notebook so the kids have a ready reference as they write their essays. This was extremely successful and really gave the kids the confidence they needed as they wrote their pieces. I am confident, after looking at the post-assessment results, that they understand the format of both paragraph writing and 5-paragraph essay writing.
NOTE: This does not include the charts and organizers available from the publisher. Refer to your publisher's guide for details on those materials.
