What educators are saying

I used this for studeys with mild to mederte intellectual disabilities to support their IEP goalds. They werte able to complete this.
This was such a great resource to open up discussion about reading food labels and learning about macromolecules.

Description

The Nutrition Label Activity teaches students how to read food nutrition labels while relating foods to biomolecules and calculating the calories of food consumed by serving size.

The first page of the packet explains the nutrition label information and the biomolecules which correspond to the nutrition information. There is also a paragraph included about the roles of sodium, vitamins, and minerals.

The following six pages are filled with popular foods students are familiar with. Each bag has general questions and calculation questions that the students need to perform simple math equations to answer. The math is simple, with most problems being solved through multiplication.

The final page is filled with reflection questions and requires the students to make connections between the nutrition labels and biomolecules.

You can give the entire packet or use a few pages at a time. Each page is able to stand on its own. There is a color and black & white copy. An editable Nutrition Label Activity file and teacher key are also included.

Develop and use a model to illustrate the hierarchical organization of interacting systems that provide specific functions within multicellular organisms. Emphasis is on functions at the organism system level such as nutrient uptake, water delivery, and organism movement in response to neural stimuli. An example of an interacting system could be an artery depending on the proper function of elastic tissue and smooth muscle to regulate and deliver the proper amount of blood within the circulatory system. Assessment does not include interactions and functions at the molecular or chemical reaction level.
