Description

Number of the Day to practice representing 3-digit numbers. Represent a given number in a variety of ways - picture form, expanded form, word form, in a place value table, with base 10 blocks (pictures), and with Canadian OR U.S. coins. They determine the value of each digit; determine 1, 10, and 100 more/ less than the numbers; show it on a number line of their choosing; and skip count forwards and backwards from the number by 2s, 3s, 5s, 10s, or 100s.

This resource contains TWO DIFFERENT templates. One is more basic and could be used near the beginning of a unit on representing 3-digit numbers. The second template contains more concepts and could be used towards the end of a unit on representing 3-digit numbers. Either template could be used throughout the year as reinforcement of this concept. This could be easily differentiated to suit your students' needs by having students only complete parts of the template, or by using smaller numbers.

Template 1: picture form, expanded form, number line, value of each digit, place value table, word form, colour Base 10 blocks, and 1/10/100 more/ less than the number.

Template 2: picture form, expanded form, value of each digit, word form, place value table, colour Base 10 blocks, 1/10/100 more/ less than the number, skip counting forwards and backwards from the number, and show the number in Canadian cents.

UPDATE!! Template 2.1: SAME as template 2, but with U.S. COINS instead of Canadian coins.

Simply print and go!

Great for morning bell or seat work, math centers, math pods, guided math stations, and independent practice.

In Saskatchewan, the curricular outcome met is:

N3.1 Demonstrate understanding of whole numbers to 1000 (concretely, pictorially, physically, orally, in writing, and symbolically)
