These number sense starters are an awesome way to integrate numbers and operations into your classroom! They are designed to be a quick 5 minute or less refresher of various rational number operations concepts. Sometimes students just need a little extra practice with integer operations, fraction operations, decimal operations, and percent concepts. This is a quick way to incorporate number sense into your classroom with minimal prep.
While practicing number operations is valuable, it can be even more impactful when a quick discussion of strategies takes place. We designed a discussion question for each slide to prompt student thinking. The goal is that you can facilitate a quick discussion where students are able to articulate their thinking process.
**This resource focuses on positive rational numbers, with the exception of concepts of integers and integer operations. Please see the preview for a list of topics included.***
What is included?
1. 180 Question Prompts
There are 18 different topics which each include 10 different question prompts. Each slide is labeled by the topic so that you can easily pick and choose.
Prompts are available in four different formats: Google Slides (standard and widescreen) and PPT (standard and widescreen)
2. Answer Keys
A printable answer key for you to easily reference
3. Discussion Questions
We have provided one discussion question per slide to help facilitate a conversation on strategies in which students share their thinking.
4. Recording Sheet
We have designed these to be paperless so that you aren’t trying to make copies or utilize paper for each student. A recording sheet is included, but I would recommend having students work in composition books.
5. Checklist
Feel free to move around the slide deck depending on what your students need. We have included a printable checklist for you to keep track of which ones your class has completed.
