Description
Hello Math Teachers! Do you want to help your students understand normal distributions and apply the Empirical Rule (64-95-99.7)? This worksheet can help! Students will practice interpreting real-world examples to find percentages, probability, and estimate data statements from distributions. They will also label parts of normal distributions when given mean and standard deviation, and identify key data points from the graphical distribution of data.
This two-sided worksheet comes with an easy-to-use key, making it perfect for use in Algebra 1 classes as an assignment, homework, or class work activity. It could also be a valuable addition to any Statistics unit.

Formats
You will have two convenient formats for this activity, so you can choose the one that best suits your needs and teaching style.
The first format is a PDF that can be printed and used as a worksheet in the classroom. The two-sided printout includes a key, making it easy for you to grade and provide feedback to your students.
The second format is an Easel Activity, which allows you to assign the activity online for your students to complete on their own devices. This option is perfect for distance learning or for assigning homework. Simply assign the activity through your school's learning platform, including Google Classroom and Schoology. Your students will be able to complete the activity online and submit their answers for grading.
So whether you prefer a traditional printed worksheet or an online activity, I've got you covered. Choose the format that works best for you and give your students the tools they need to succeed in math!
Math Standards
Aligned with common core standards CCSS HSS-ID.A.2, HSS-ID.A.4 Students will use their understanding of normal distribution and the empirical rule to answer questions about data sets. Florida's B.E.S.T. standards MA.912.DP.2.1 For two or more sets of numerical univariate data, calculate and compare the appropriate measures of center and measures of variability, accounting for possible effects of outliers. Interpret any notable features of the shape of the data distribution. The measure of center is limited to mean and median. The measure of variation is limited to range, interquartile range, and standard deviation. MA.912.DP.2.2 Use the mean and standard deviation of a data set to fit it to a normal distribution and to estimate population percentages. Recognize that there are data sets for which such a procedure is not appropriate. Use technology, empirical rules or tables to estimate areas under the normal curve.

Teacher Feedback
"Perfect worksheet for a limited amount of time."
"I really like this resource for my students. The first few questions help the students develop a better understanding of how to use the empirical rule. After that, there are a variety of questions with real-world data where the students apply the rule. The worksheet is divided into sections and has plenty of practice fit on a single back-to-back page, so students do not get overwhelmed as they just answer a few questions at a time. There are visuals printed on the worksheet to catch our interest, as well as graphs for the students to work out the math on. I highly recommend this resource!"
"This was a great resource and the kids enjoyed it."
