Nonfiction: Nonfiction Bundle Common Core Aligned

Nonfiction reading and writing will be exciting for your students with this fun-filled bundle. Your students will explore the world of non-fiction and publish their very own non fiction expert books. This packet covers fact and opinion, text features, how to read informational text, and so much more. See below for more specific information. Please read full description for breakdown of pages as I have included duplicates within the text feature packet so that you can print full class sets all at once.

NonFiction Writing Unit/Expert Topics WITH MINILESSONS:

This unit is common core aligned and chock full of everything you need to launch a non- fiction writing unit. It contains everything from planning sheets, and graphic organizers for pulling headings and details from a larger topic, to samples of how to web a larger idea. It contains all of the book pages you need to create a final copy or published book. It contains text feature pages so your students can create the following: index, glossary, photographs page with captions, diagram, Introduction, table of contents, fun facts, and sidebars. It also includes book covers for the final copy and folder covers for the planning phase. I have also included specific instructions for you, varied samples and writing paper choices, and a dedication and about the author page. I hope you like it!

NonFiction Reading Resources:

This packet contains graphic organizers and resources you can use for teaching your students how to read non-fiction text.

Included in this packet are:

*9 grade level passages (3 each for grades 1 through 3) to teach heading and/or main idea with answer sheet

*graphic organizer for fact or opinion

*3 grade level passages (1 for each grade 1-3) for distinguishing between fact and opinion with answer sheets

*2 graphic organizers for listing facts learned (with and without lines provided)

*4 graphic organizers for learning about and using non-fiction text features (with and without lines provided)

*graphic organizer for new vocabulary words using glossary

*2 graphic organizers for main idea and supporting details

*graphic organizer for author message and important points

*graphic organizer for compare and contrast of two different books/same topic

*3 graphic organizers for asking questions and thinking about reading

Nonfiction Text Features:

This packet contains a class set (24) of 10 resources to use with a non-fiction text feature unit. Students are asked to find examples of 10 different n/f text features and record their learning. I use these with mini notebooks after my mini lessons. The students glue them into their mini notebooks and are able to quickly complete the task and share afterwards. See photo of the notebooks in my preview. We simply cut a 24 leaf book in half using a paper cutter.

I included 8 slides for each feature in case you wanted to print a class set in color all at once. (This is why there are 85 pages). Enjoy!
