Lesson Plans:

Day One

Read Lizards (Nat Geo Kids)

Introduce Non-Fiction Text Feature Posters

Day Two

Provide each student with a laminated magnifying glass and a sample reader.

As a class search through the sample reader and see if you can find all 6 non-fiction text features shown in the class posters.

Allow students to use a highlighter to identify the features in their

sample readers.

Day Three

Provide each student with a laminated magnifying glass and a non-fiction book (students can work in pairs depending on your supply of All About Non-Fiction books.)

Hand out the Non-Fiction Scavenger Hunt Activity and have students check off all the text features they can location in their book.

These lesson plans continue from Day 1 - Day 10 and also includes a number of extension activities as well as how to link this unit to your guided reading lesson.
