Description

Snake is a fun middle school math game that gets kids competing each other to connect the most squares with their color. They will love blocking each other, strategizing, and without even knowing it, be actively engaged in practicing their math skills! This game works great for Math Centers, practice after whole-class learning, or testing review.

This is a set of three Snake boards for students to practice adding and subtracting integers. Each board increases in difficulty as follows:

•Board #1: Addition Only

•Board #2: Addition and Subtraction

•Board #3: Addition and Subtraction of Larger Integers

Students play in groups of 2-3. Each student selects a different color crayon or colored pencil. The first player chooses an expression square and the square with the answer and colors both squares with his/her color.

Players take turns coloring in 2 squares at a time. The winner is the student who creates the longest “snake” of his/her color of consecutive squares.

Each number is on the board at least twice, which allows for strategic thinking.

Differentiation: Group students by ability levels. Start lower students with the first board and provide them a number line from -20 to +20 to use. Middle students can start with the second board and higher students can start with the third board.
