Newsmaker of the Week

In lieu of a "star student", this works better for upper grades. Each week choose a Newsmaker of the Week. The newsmaker does a little "show-n-tell" style presentation about themselves and then each student writes an article about them on a sheet of 5 in. by 11 in. binder paper (like a column.) Then create a headline in Word saying like: JOE SMITH: NEWSMAKER OF THE WEEK, glue it onto actual newspaper and then glue on all the students articles on as well. It creates a personal newspaper.
At the end of the week, the newsworthy student has a very cool keepsake to take home and treasure for years.
I do this in my class every week and the newsmaker LOVES their newspaper.
