Description

What's missing from the New York State Common Core Mathematics Modules? Guided notes aligned with each module lesson! Guided notes create a link between school and home, which is essential due to the changes in Common Core from a focus on algorithms to a deeper understanding of the reasons behind the mathematical processes. These notes help your students in the classroom attentively progress with you through the module lessons with a gradual release of responsibility. Thus, creating an example for parents to reference when supporting their children at home. Not only will these notes help you with instruction, but it will also alleviate daily questions from parents who are confused about how to support their child in math. This is Module 4 of 7. Be sure to get the guided notes I have created for all of the modules!

Recognize angles as geometric shapes that are formed wherever two rays share a common endpoint, and understand concepts of angle measurement:
Measure angles in whole-number degrees using a protractor. Sketch angles of specified measure.
Recognize angle measure as additive. When an angle is decomposed into non-overlapping parts, the angle measure of the whole is the sum of the angle measures of the parts. Solve addition and subtraction problems to find unknown angles on a diagram in real world and mathematical problems, e.g., by using an equation with a symbol for the unknown angle measure.
Solve two-step word problems using the four operations. Represent these problems using equations with a letter standing for the unknown quantity. Assess the reasonableness of answers using mental computation and estimation strategies including rounding.
Understand that shapes in different categories (e.g., rhombuses, rectangles, and others) may share attributes (e.g., having four sides), and that the shared attributes can define a larger category (e.g., quadrilaterals). Recognize rhombuses, rectangles, and squares as examples of quadrilaterals, and draw examples of quadrilaterals that do not belong to any of these subcategories.
