What educators are saying

My students loved using this resource as a great way to share about their New Year goals and fun. It was a great activity to use when we returned from break. They were engaged and enjoyed making this. We added a few of our own details and hung them in our hallway.
This was a little challenging for some of my students but I felt it was great to see where they are and how they are feeling about the new year; the vocabulary words were fantastic and I feel my class has a better understanding about New Year's traditions and resolutions.

Description

This New Year’s reading comprehension brochure is perfect for helping your students learn the meaning of a resolution, reflect, and create goals for the new year. It includes a short passage, comprehension questions, vocabulary match and draw, goal setting, and reflection.

How to use this resource:

  • Print front/back. Fold on the dotted lines to make the brochure.
  • Students draw a portrait of themselves on the front of the brochure.
  • Complete the vocabulary activity. Students must match the word to the correct definition and draw a picture to represent the word. (resolution, promise, New Year’s Day, midnight)
  • Read the passage. Students will learn about New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day, and learn the meaning of a resolution.
  • Complete comprehension questions - Students must use the color code and use text evidence to underline the answer in the passage. They can then write their answers on the lines.
  • After learning about goal setting, students must write three goals for the new year.
  • Students can complete the looking back and looking ahead writing activity.
