What educators are saying

As a new chemistry teacher, this bundle was an absolute lifesaver! I definitely recommend purchasing this resource if you are just starting out or if you're looking to revamp your beginning of the year routine.
This product is great not only for new chemistry teachers but for experienced ones as well. I found this even more useful than originally anticipated!

Description

Reduce your beginning of the year anxiety with these 8 editable documents! This starter pack includes a first day of class PowerPoint (38 slides), Welcome-to-Class Survey worksheet, textbook checkout chart, editable curriculum map, student syllabus (to be signed by student and parent), a lab safety PowerPoint (21 slides), lab equipment ID activity, lesson plan template, a lab safety quiz, and freebie classroom signs. The first few days of class are critical for establishing guidelines and gaining respect.

All of the documents are editable, so you can add your own guidelines and information!

1) First Day of Class PowerPoint: 38 slides to start you off on the right foot! Establish guidelines, introduce yourself and the course, and conduct a lab demonstration to get students interested in chemistry on the first day! Lab requires an Alka Seltzer tablet, water, film canister, and mortar and pestle.

2) Welcome to Class Survey: Students will complete this assignment on the first day of school to establish bell work protocol. They will finish this worksheet as their first assignment. Learn about your students interests, how they learn best, and what you can do to best teach them. Questions range from serious to silly.

3) Textbook Checkout Chart-Each student will be assigned a textbook number. This chart includes a place for signatures. By signing, students acknowledge they must pay for their book if it is damaged or lost.

4) Curriculum Map-This editable document shows how I planned out my year of introductory chemistry by topic. It also has a space for including relevant standards. Your administration will likely ask you to provide an outline of the year, and this is an excellent starting place!

5) Student Syllabus-This three page editable syllabus reviews guidelines, expectations and a list of necessary materials. The student and a parent or guardian will sign the last page in order to acknowledge they understand and will abide by these policies.

6) Lab Safety PowerPoint-This includes 21 slides covering important lab safety rules. True/false and think-pair-share questions encourage students to review concepts and think about how they would handle various safety issues.

7) Lab Equipment ID Challenge-Students will view various pieces of lab equipment around the room, and see if they can correctly match the item to its name. This quick and interactive activity is a great addition to the lab safety day.

8) Lesson Plan Template-This editable document can be used as a template throughout the year. It includes spaces for materials, strategies, assessments, objectives, vocabulary, and more.

9) Freebie Classroom Signs-Remind your students of assignment expectations every day with these fun "SWAG" signs.

10) Lab Safety Quiz-I give this to my students after we discuss the lab safety PowerPoint. It is essential that your students understand how to keep themselves and their lab partners safe! If a student does not pass this quiz, they are not allowed to participate in labs until they pass a re-take of the quiz.
