INSTRUCTIONS (from the Teacher Guide)

PREP: Print the WORKSHEET on pgs 2 - 3. You can also print the HANDOUT on page 4 (this has the same info as the PPT but can be used for students who may need more time, are absent, or require printed notes as part of an IEP)

TEACH:

  • Review the topographical map as a reference. You may want to have students fill in the mountain ranges and rivers
  • STEP 1: Have students lightly shade in the regions – not too dark as they will write over the top
  • STEP 2: Project the instructions. Discuss the resources in each region as you present. Make sure students are thinking about the question at the end. (Sample responses provided in the KEY – last slide)
  • STEP 3: Work back through the slides – longest section first to get it done while students are more fresh! Have students summarize the info in the boxes on the second page of the worksheet.

You may want to discuss the “KEY IDEA” questions in class or assign for homework and discuss the following day. Encourage students to use different examples for the 2 questions.
