Description
This engaging and thorough lesson on Native American tribes is a great way to introduce students to the diverse array of cultures that existed in North America prior to the arrival of Europeans.
The download includes all of the following:
- PowerPoint and Google Slides presentations
- Flipped classroom video version
- Guided notes and interactive notebook page options
- Primary source analysis on the Great Law of Peace
- Reading and worksheet on the Iroquois Confederacy
- One Pager project on an American Indian tribe
- Lesson plan detailing how to use everything!
The presentations cover the major cultural regions in North America and some the Native American tribes that existed in each. The "flipped classroom" video is a fully-narrated video version. This is perfect for students to watch at home, show in class, or save for absent students so they still get the info.
A guided notes worksheet and interactive notebook-style page are both included for students to use with the video or presentation.
Next, you have options to use based on what best fits your class. First is a "One Pager" project which students complete on one of 30 major Native American groups. A directions page, Google Doc, and rubric for this are included.
Other options include either a primary source analysis reading on the Iroquois' constitution or a secondary source reading on their confederacy. These are great resources to use and then later compare with when you cover the American Constitution.
Editable Google Doc versions of the readings and worksheets are included along with answer keys for your convenience.
This lesson can also be downloaded as part of my Age of Exploration Unit Plan Bundle - which covers the era for both US and World History.
Thanks for checking it out!
