What educators are saying

This resource includes 5 premade lessons and learning targets for each one. Everything is literally done for you as a teacher in this resource! You can choose to print or go digital for each activity.
My students were able to better grasp the concepts with this resource. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a good way to start a unit.

Description

Are you looking for a reading bundle that uses wonderful mentor texts (video links included) and includes analysis of text structures, author's purpose, character analysis, and identification of main idea and theme? Look no further. I have the perfect electronic and printable lessons for you.

This reading BUNDLE includes lessons for:

  • Ada's Violin (Susan Hood) - Main Idea and Theme
  • Catching the Moon (Crystal Hubbard) - Problem and Solution
  • Solving the Puzzle Under the Sea (Robert Burleigh) - Character Analysis
  • The House That Jane Built (Tanya Lee Stone) - Cause and Effect
  • Wilma Unlimited (Kathleen Krull) - Author's Purpose

Also included are slide presentations for facilitating online discussions about each lesson and a Google doc with implementation suggestions.

Everything is ready to share in Google drive/Google classroom. The links to Google slides are on the Terms of Use page. All you have to do is click the links and you will be prompted to make copies. I have also included printable copies in both black and white and color for when we return to our classrooms.

Every year, I like to launch my narrative nonfiction unit by drawing on students' background knowledge of "hybrids". Every lesson in this bundle includes the definition of narrative nonfiction so you can start with any lesson and share them in any order. You can leave the definition page in each lesson or you can delete the page if you prefer. Making the connection to hybrids like "ligers", mules, and hybrid cars can help students understand narrative nonfiction in a new way.

Students love learning about real people and their stories of perseverance and triumph. Children can never have too many role models!

These lessons are aligned with Common Core State Standards (CCSS) as well as Virginia SOLs.

The books are NOT included.
