St Patrick's Day has become an international celebration of Irish heritage, culture and tradition. With this Video WebQuest, students will learn about who St Patrick was, and answer 17 questions about the following topics:

Where in the World is Ireland
St Patrick's Background and Life
Saint Patrick's Mission and Legacy
Myths and Legends
Shamrocks
Parade Traditions and History
Historical Events: The Great Potato Famine
Modern Celebrations

There are then TWO additional tasks:

Students imagine they have to explain to someone unfamiliar with St Patrick and St Patrick's Day, who he was and how the celebration and festivities came to be, and then
They create a cartoon strip to demonstrate what they have learned about the history of St Patrick's Day, traditions, and modern day celebrations.

An Answer Key is included.

This VIDEO on YOUTUBE is used to complete the Video WebQuest. However, there are a couple of questions for which students will have to consult other sources. They will then have to mention their source in their answer.

How to use:
Independent Research Project / WebQuest

Introduction to St Patrick's Day. Students could complete the task independently and submit as part of a research project on the country.

Homework

Set the task as part of normal homework on the topic.
Subplan

Use the resource as a subplan.
Group Work

You could also split the tasks, for example, one groups researches and reports on the Culture and Traditions of Ireland.

Good to know:
- Students will need access to the internet.
- 8 pages (activities and tasks ) plus 2 page (suggested answers).
- Take a loot at the PREVIEW to get an idea of what you are buying.
