NGSS 6-8 Middle School Standards "I can" poster, practices, checklists

This file contains 64 pages of materials I use in my classroom to help me implement the NGSS. It contains the final NGSS performance expectations (standards) for middle school physical science, life science, earth & space science, and engineering that I post in my classroom as learning goals. They are color coded and written in the "I can" format. (See my other listings for other formats that may suit your needs better).

It also contains the eight science practices that the Next Generation Science Standards focuses on (again used for posting).

I have included my NGSS science practices checklist, which is broken down, first by practice, then into each of the components of the practice that students are expected to master at the end of the 6-8th grade band. (Our science department finds this really helpful- we pass it along to the next grade level team at the end of the year- so they can see what areas may need work for the next year.) I included this in both color and black and white.

Finally I included a checklist for all of the NGSS middles school performance expectations. I have been using this checklist to help me ascertain which standards I need to develop further and which my students have mastered.

I am providing this as Word Document file because I know that many of you only teach a small chunk of the Middle School NGSS based on which course mapping option your school is following (either the science domain model or the conceptual progressions model). That way you can cut out the portions that don't pertain to your curriculum. But I have also put in the PDF because some have had an easier time with this file format.
