Description

Do you have students interested in the March Madness basketball tournament? Then this is the activity you need!

To begin our March Madness unit, we look at all of the teams participating in the tournament and complete a map together to show where each team is from. We notice that some states have more than others and some states have none, and spend time discussing why that might be. Students will complete their own March Madness bracket.

Students will then select a team in the NCAA March Madness tournament that they are interested in learning more about. Using select websites with detailed instructions, students will research their team to locate information such as the team's city/state, mascot, colors, coach, &offensive and defensive averages. They will also look at the individual players' statistics, focusing on field goal percentages, 3-point field goal percentages, and heights, determining if there is a correlation between the percentages and a player's height.

Students will also determine how many times their team has appeared in the NCAA tournament as well as how many championships their team has won.

They can present their information to the class in a creative way, such as a poster, a mock interview with a player, a newspaper article, or a PowerPoint with pictures.

I hope your students enjoy it as much as mine have!!
