Use this engaging powerpoint to teach an introductory lesson about the USDA MyPlate Food Guide, even including a Do Now! Students will learn about the evolution of MyPlate from the Food Guide Pyramid to MyPyramid, to MyPlate in 2011.
Stimulate discussion with higher-order questions such as "why a plate?" and introduce the variations that MyPlate allows for people of different cultural backgrounds and health concerns such as allergies or heart disease.
The Powerpoint also includes two essential nutrition vocabulary terms: variety and balance.
Allow students to practice their new knowledge by playing the MyPlate "BlastOff Game." A link is provided in the presentation.
