Description

Are you looking for a no-prep way to help your student's meal plan and recognize healthy food choices in their day with MyPlate as a guide? This is a Food and Nutrition food log activity for students to track a day of their eating and find the nutritional value including calories, fat, protein, sugar, and vitamins using MyPlate. They also create an "ideal" meal plan using a list of healthy foods and compare the 2 meal plans. It is a great activity for Health, Physical Education, FCS, or Culinary Arts.

What's Included?

  • 1-page reading about appropriate nutrition with links to MyPlate and Calorie Counter for nutritional information
  • student log that includes breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snack of their typical day
  • ideal food log for students to complete after looking at a list of healthy foods
  • an analysis of their day to help identify if they are meeting their requirements
  • an analysis of the ideal meal plan day
  • ideal log that they create to compare followed by questions.

You can assign this project in Google Classroom or you can print and create a paper journal for students to complete.

Students use MyPlate to find their average amount of calories based on their height, weight and gender. They use that when they analyze their meal plan. It also has students use the WebMD calorie counter that gives nutritional information for foods. Students type in a food and it tells them the amount of nutrients.
