Description

My Goals - Lesson Plans for School Counselor and/or Teacher.

Objectives
- Students will create reasonable goals for each area: academic, career, behavior/social and personal
- Students will create a plan of action for meeting those goals, including resources (people) needed
- Students will reflect on their progress three times a year

Common Core Standards for ELA references included. As a school counselor for Special Education, in my district I have to include Common Core. :-)

This packet is geared toward 3rd, 4th & 5th grade, but it could easily be tweaked for Elementary and Middle School. This year I am working with the Intermediate grade levels - after many years at the Middle/High School level. Time to recreate!

This packet includes a basic lesson plan to introduce students to goal-setting in a basic way.

It is easy to say, "I want to ________." It is important to teach them that our goals include steps along the way (or they should include steps). They may also include help from others. All of this is part of the planning.....all of which is broken down into manageable steps. It can be as involved or as basic as you would like it to be.

I strongly encourage you to include adults in the goal-setting process. It provides a great opportunity for modeling behavior - even when goals aren't met....which often means we need to reflect on a couple different things and maybe re-write them a bit. Never does it mean we are a failure,

NOTE:

I am often asked questions about counseling goals for CAREER. The focus in the early years should be on skills that everyone needs to be productive in the workplace and they often include social and organizational skills. It is also important to expose students to a variety of jobs/careers through reading, virtual field trips, guest speakers, letter writing, research, job shadowing, and asking questions that spark their inquisitive nature
