These are alternative assignments that you can do with your students during or after reading the short story, "My Favorite Chaperone," by Jean Davies Okimoto from the 8th Grade English Language Arts Collections book by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt.

Some assignments that are included are:

1. Question sheets that ask students to put themselves into the position that characters Maya and Nurzhan lived in, and think about how they would be affected by the situation.

2. A fictional narrative writing assignment that works in conjunctions with previous question sheet. Their answers will help them write their story.

3. Vocabulary sheets for definitions, pictures, students own sentence using the words, antonyms and synonyms.

4. A know your vocabulary crossword puzzle

Rubric is not included, but a link to a very beautifully written one with credits to the school that created them for common core can be found in my Terms of Use file.

All pages are in .PDF files and are compressed into .zip format. Please be sure you have the necessary programs to open these files.

I aim for top quality in my products. Should you find any errors - whether layout, spelling, or grammatical - please don't hesitate to contact me immediately. Errors will be corrected and a new version will be uploaded to TPT.
