My Community Report - Social Studies, Oral Report, & Expository Writing

My Community Report is a great way to get students to identify and tell about various important parts of their local communities. Students take a photo (or draw a picture) and write about:

1.) Their neighborhood
2.) A local business in their community
3.) A government entity (City Hall, fire station, etc.)
4.) Some place uniquely important to the student (could be their church, where they take dance classes, etc.)

This is an ideal home project or after school project that gives students the opportunity to get out and interact with their communities. Many of my students got to meet and take photos with interesting community members like the mayor, local business owners, and firefighters, just to name a few. This project does involve some level of necessary home involvement, but I have found that both student and parents have enjoyed working together on this project. I have used different versions of this project on students from pre-K to 4th grade.

Each Community Report comes with a printable PDF file and also a fully editable Word file so that you can customize it to your needs. The reports are created to be printed on 11x17 papers so that they can be displayed in the hallway or classroom.
