Muslim Arabic Speaking Students in the American Classroom: Cultural & Religious

Target audience: Pre-service and current K-12 classroom teachers, K-12 ESL and bilingual educators, & K-12 administrators, in US schools; American teachers going to teach in Arabic-speaking countries

This colorful Power Point is designed for half day (approx. 3hrs) workshops. It is designed to help school administrators and educators become more aware of the unique cultural, religious, and academic needs of Muslim Arabic-speaking students in the school setting. Basic terms that many people often confuse, including the difference between Arab and Muslim, and countries in which the Arabic language is spoken will be discussed. Also addressed are facts and misconceptions about Islam, including the Five Pillars of the Islamic faith, along with how the needs of Muslim students can be taken into account in the school setting. Notes that will aide you with the delivery of the presentation are included below many of the slides. Ways that teachers can implement this knowledge within the classroom setting are emphasized.
