What educators are saying

I do musique mercredi every week. This is a great resource to use when I want to pick a song for a particular theme. I would not have known many of these songs without this reference. Merci!

Description

This is the ultimate French playlist for teachers. It's a library of resources, a cheat sheet of sorts. When I began teaching I wish I had known about all these songs. It take years to find and accumulate great, authentic, supplemental materials to your lessons. I wanted to create a shortcut for teachers. These are not lesson, rather they are music videos that can be used to open into a lesson, to create interest, to drive engagement, and to bring the language to life.

This resources is a hyperdoc with a list of themes & a list of grammar topics. Under each theme & grammar concept is a link you a great music video for teaching about it in a culturally competent way. The far right column has a link to a site where you can find the lyrics for all but 2 of the songs.

Teaching tip: For the themed lessons ask students to explain why it represents that theme.

For the grammar lessons have students find & highlight the example(s) of the concept in the text of the lyrics. The grammar ones will have one or several instances of the grammar point. The point is to see the grammar in context, not repetition practice.

There are 54 songs total. They showcase the diversity of French speakers. They are high engagement.

Each teacher should preview the song to make sure it is appropriate for their age group & school. The music videos are (in my opinion) all high school appropriate. Many are middle school appropriate.

* A few notes for the teacher: I added comments to let you know which music videos you may want to preview first. I believe the list is very school friendly, but that can vary based on age group/school culture.
