Description

Who doesn't love some fun, simple Reader's Theatre! Reader's Theatre is a great way to practice fluency and build reading confidence in students. Sprinkle in some music and you have a super simple activity that your students will eat up!

This reader’s theatre script is a fictional short story about a group of young students tasked by NASA with a mission to save the world. The world is under threat of an epidemic of “Giraffe Flu!” In order to find a cure, 7 young students must travel deep into outer space.
This script has 11 individual speaking parts and a chorus. The chorus can be made up of any number of students that aren’t assigned to a speaking part.

This script includes 4 short songs sung by the chorus. The songs are mostly parodies of songs that most students will likely be familiar with. These include: Space Jam from the movie Space Jam, I’ll Make A Man Out of You from Mulan, and A Million Dreams from The Greatest Showman . With my own students, I find the karaoke or instrumental versions of these songs on YouTube to sing a long to but its not necessary. The first song, Eight Planets, is a song from Mother Goose Club Nursery Rhymes and Kids’ Songs. The link to the video is included with the lyrics.

The words in the script describe the students as 3rd graders. This can be easily adjusted for students of other ages by editing the words to match the age of the group performing.

Enjoy! And be sure to check back often with Miss Music Makes Magic for more musical reader’s theatre!
