Music Puzzle 02: Bach's Prelude in CMaj mm1-4
- Zip
Description
This is an extension of "Learn Audacity," Using the first four measures of Bach's Prelude in CMaj, children (9+) learn how to import and manipulate short sound files. You can think of this as Garageband-lite. The children use short phrases as "loops" but they must do all the copy and pasting themselves. This is more labor-intensive and the result is that kids gain a better understanding of how music is constructed. The program (i.e., Garageband) is not going to help them out. If kids make mistakes, they have to correct them. Here's a video giving you a better understanding of the point I'm making.
To help your kids learn to use Audacity as quickly as possible, I created this module, Challenge 01, Bach's Prelude in CMaj BWV 846.
Everything you'll need is in this free zip file.
- Open Me First - pdf instructions.
- Instructional videos linked to the instructions page.
- FYI: In addition to demonstrating what to do and how to do it, I interject information and ideas that connect what the child is doing with this project and other domains. In Challenge 02, for example, I get into mathematical combinations, permutations, and percentages.
- Audacity file(s).
- Sound folder.
- Share folder.
What I'm trying to establish with these first few challenges is to create a routine and with a well-established process/routine, kids will be able to complete much more challenging puzzles with less direction/instructions. Therefore, it is important that your kids go slowly, step-by-step.
FYI: Challenge 02 is the complete version of the Prelude in CMaj with five different instrumental choices.
