USE THIS RESOURCE:

PREPARE:

  • Sing the song for the students or use the recording.
  • Play the Game
  • Use the pages teaching Rhythm, Pitch, Notes on the staff.
  • If students are learning “la”, then ask them which pitch changes. Ask students what sounds the same and what sounds different?
  • You may need to sing or hum it a few times for them to notice one note is higher.
  • Now hum and ask students to show the pitch with solfa hand signs.
  • Use the Solfa Street to help students notice and practice the new note.

PRESENT:

  • Tell students the name of the new pitch and show the hand sign using solfa street and/or the snowball notes.
  • Sing the part of the song that includes the new pitch with syllables “mi so la”
  • Have the students sing the song 1 more time with words.

PRACTICE:

  • Move to the writing or other activity to practice in a different medium.
  • Sing the Song and Play the Game
  • These lessons may be spread out over several class times.
