Music Accidentals Handout & Worksheet for Treble, Bass, & Alto Clef
- PDF
Description
The Music Accidentals Handout and Worksheet includes a 1-page handout and a 1-page worksheet on sharps, flats, and naturals. There is a worksheet for 1)treble clef, 2)bass clef, and 3)alto clef. All answers are the same for each clef.
The handout includes definitions, what it looks like on the staff, how to label it, how to say it, and what it looks like on a keyboard.
On the worksheet, students trace accidentals, write accidentals on the staff for line and space notes, label note names with accidentals, and label note names with accidentals within a piece of music.
I personally use this in Band before I teach Key Signature. Some of my students have played music with flats, sharps, and naturals in their music already. I use this worksheet to review and make sure all students are on the same page about accidentals.
I take the time to explain what accidentals are, show them what it looks like on the keyboard, and let them hear what the pitch change. (If you've never used the keyboard to teach accidentals, you should! It's extremely helpful for the kids because it's visual and aural!) After I go over the handout, we complete the worksheet together. If you don't want to cover it in class, you can always assign it for homework!
Also check out this FREE poster I use to reinforce accidentals! I show it to my students after I've taught accidentals.
